A Little Scare

On Thursday, I picked up Noah from school. He had tears in his eyes. His teacher (who puts him in the car) said his foot was sleeping and it scared him. I dismissed it. Throughout the evening he was not walking as fast and then began to limp. We let him sleep to see if it would pass. Friday morning he woke up and the limp was so bad he fell. He said that there was a pain between the ball of his foot to his heal. He would walk on the very edge of his foot (not his toes) and couldnt lay his foot flat on the ground. We made a Dr appt with his pediatrition. His primary checked him out and couldnt find anything. But then I told the Dr about what happened at school. He immediately sent us to Children's Hospital. He was concerned he needed an xray or it was nerves. We rushed to the ER at Children's Hospital. After hours of waiting and xrays, they still didnt find anything. They did bring to our attention that he was sooo flat footed and that maybe thats the reason (his arches fell) or if he gets a fever that it could be an infection in his foots lining. So they sent us home with bedrest and mortin.
Well, have you ever bedrest a hyper 4 year old with a 1 year old addicted to my brother sister! Wow, that was a challenge. By Sunday, my Mom suggested to make him walk....maybe he was fearful of the pain if he did walk correctly. So slowly but surely he began to walk (with several moans and groans) by evening he kicked a ball and ran. He is returning to school today, with eagle eyes of his teachers. We do have to still get him looked at by a pediatric orthopedist.
We are blessed that it wasnt the worst (because my brain surely was thinking horrible ideas of what it could be). Thanks all for the thoughts and prayers.

My parents celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary!
Skylar is fasinated with hide and seek. I love how she says Hide!
Some how Skylar got into the fridge, opened a yogurt container and dumped it all over herself and the floor...in the middle of it....Noah said she needed a spoon so he gave it to her! oh it was a sight!
So I have to laugh that my stresses of the mommy day are my daughter hid my keys in the bathroom my debit card in the couch and my drivers license in noah art pail! (wow my world has changed!)
Skylar got her back top molar teeth (ouch . . . two days of fever for those!)
funny thing..so once again skylar woke up with me at 430a to sew...i put her in my bed. at 745a while i am sewing i hear noises to i go look. she was in noah's bathroom brushing her teeth! hahaha

A NEW JOURNEY

I have decided to make a change in my life. As of yesterday, I have resigned from my 12 year career with Marriott to be a mom. I discovered that I was missing out on my babies lives. I was putting the hotel first. I had a wake up call that I need to be home. So my darling husband crunched the numbers and we found an insurance carrier, and I took the leap of faith.

I know that God will take care of us, for He knows we can be a family. I am so blessed by those around me supporting my decision. (and yes, it will make Design A Latte timing shorter!)

So I leave you with this...

I'm a wife to the Poppa, mother of my two angels, ~~career oriented hotel manager~~, and ~~envious of all~~ a stay at home moms. While multitasking with a coffee always in hand, I continue my passion for design and all things monogrammed.

Design A Latte has entered a new journey. I accomplished my first craft fair at my high school. It was so exciting, nerve-wrecking, and rewarding. To hear people say, "thats soo cute!" "oh i like that..." etc is so heartwarming! I am soo appreciative of my wonderful husband, my sweat-shop owner - my mom, my best friend Kathy and my father so working the booth with me. I am soo thrilled to be taking a vacation away from the hotel. But I am so blessed to be staying at my Hotel Mentor, Jay Dahlke's hotel The Grand Hotel by Marriott. This year we are heading over to Point Clear, AL with my parents (Mimi <3 Popeye AND Parran <3 Aunt Denisey) I cant wait to watch Noah slide down the water slide like a big boy, take Skylar to her first lazy river, lots of sunshine (stay away tropical storm), and love! I remember loving to play school. I had dreamt about being a teacher when I was in the fourth grade. Being that my mom was a teacher it rubbed off. Honestly, I just wanted to decorate classrooms and be bossy! :)

But to this day when I do get to go back to my Alma mater, USM. I am delighted to speak in the classes. I really do enjoy teaching.

Funny though my boards hanging up behind my front office in the hotel is ALWAYS decked out!

Blogger Mommy Challenge (i am a little behind). But to share one childhood dream/ambition/lifestyle daily on my blog is the mission. To see if I have obtained any of the dreams I once had. The funny part is that I still have my journals, my same Bible I received for my Confirmation that is jam packed with stuff to assist me with this Challenge.

First entry...
When I was in the second grade I wanted to be a mom. A mom of four children (3 girls and 1 boy): there names list were Grace Joan, Cecila Marie, Tabitha Lee, and Jame Michael {please do not even ask me where these names came from - my children's names are Noah Blaise and Skylar MacKenzie!}. I had not decided a true career path, but do have it noted that if I was a teacher as my mom is that I would always be able to be a mom.

On Noah's actual birthday (June 22) we woke up to a delight that "GOD BROUGHT ME A BIRTHDAY PRESENT!" hahhaaaaa, yes, we woke up to a turtle in our backyard and Noah thought God brought him a present!

In true humor Uncle Wesley and Aunt Kathy bought Noah classic gifts....a snap gel hand!

And on this day, at a routine check up....Noah Blaise Manuel was born a preemie. Just a little bigger than a #2 unsharpen pencil and 4 lbs. My best bud arrived and stole our hearts. The pictures above were during his month in NICU. He is so adorable then and now. So we are celebrating in Toy Story 3 fashion today...I cant wait for him to wake up.

Fathers are so inspirational in our lives. To a daughter a dad is a protector, a coach, a guider in life. Who our father is typically is who we marry. The cycle begins again.

I'm honored that my dad (popeye) is so important in our life as our retired wood carpenter, a coach and a great icecream babysitter. My father is so outstanding and talented. Daddy you are so loved by us all!!

Poppa is continuing the same enduring and guiding love to our children that Im appreciative in my daddy. Poppa we love you!!! Thanks for spoiling us rotten

We also have father like dads in our life. We want to share this special day with too: Papa, grandpa, parran, the godfather, And dox!! We are so blessed!

A little getaway

We are in route to the Coast! I'm thrilled to be staying at the casino/hotel for the weekend. Looking forward to seeing the entire Manuel clan for Mama and Papa wedding anniversary. Tomorrow I get to see my sorority sister and help her with items for her consignment shop. Then we are attneding cousin Emylia swim party! We head back home to celebrate Father's Day!

life will lead you in a different direction sometimes- often with a interesting outcome! well, my life has had a few momentous left turns that have produced my favorite of all favorite scenes (life's journeys).

PROUDLY, the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI the most beautiful college campus to me! Deciding to not follow the pack, I decided on a smaller college - lead me to Delta Gamma Sisterhood and my hubby!

The most interesting and educational trip......The Hotelier of Cesar Ritz in Le Bouvere, Switzerland

St Joan of Arc statue in Paris, France. Went to school in Switzerland, but we were given a weekend pass to Paris. A few of us decided we wanted to explorer. Several wrong turns and this amazingly beautiful statue greeted us!

I was always taught of unconditional love in school. I understood that my parents love me and will provide, but didn't completely understand until Noah and Skykar came into my life.

Unconditionally I will go to work day after day in order to provide for you. Even though it's a really bad day.

At Skylar's check up she is 7 months old. She weighs 16.1 oz, 27.5" long. Her development: sits up unassisted, grabs with one hand and gives to the other, rolls over back to front and front to back, recognizes her name, talks NONSTOP, eats solids well....(that's an understatement!)

To capture this months adorableness I am starting with a picture of how she woke up the other morning = yeap pulling down her bumper pad waiting for us to come in!

What a wonderful month for us! Skylar MacKenzie turned 6 months old on Friday! She has been growing up faster than I would like. This month she learned how to sit up and entertain herself. She grabs her toys, Noah's toys, and most of all our iphone and tv remote!

On her actual birthday her first tooth cut on the bottom right. She is drooling and drooling more each day. She especially love to play with her feet and roll over and over and over some more.

French Quarter Fest was soo much fun. We met up with Parran, Aunt Denise, Sambo and Katie, and Mimi and Popeye. Noah enjoyed walking the streets with the family. We finished the day with watching Popeye preform on stage!

We had last minute change in plans! We headed to the Zephyr's Stadium with Lillian and crew for a night at the ballpark. Noah loved the fireworks the best!

We heaed to the park with Woozie, MattMatt, TayTay, Honeybee, and Zoey! It was so much fun. The boys played frisbee and hoops. Skylar was loved on and her chubbs admired! We had a picnic and snacks...it was a great day!

A wonderful Easter celebration with the Manuel's down in Biloxi. Iit was such an amazing and memorable time. We met Scrappy, the new dog in Aunt Holly's house...Noah feel in love with him.

I am shocked at the numerous changes occuring on Southern Miss campus. From the sorority villages, the new housing, no more commons to eat....amazing what a few years can do for a campus. Noah really enjoyed running FREELY through campus playing where is Seymour? He really was on a mission to find our mascot....come to find out an active Delta Gamma is one of them...unfortunately we never found him, but got amazing pictures out of the day.

Of course, the kids were not ready to leave each other's company. We decided to treat them to some fun at build a bear at the mall. Immediately Noah and Lillian ran to the Alvin and Brittany dolls. They were thrilled and even selected music to be added inside.

One of Noah's favorite past times was in his Johnny Jump Up! I had tons of laundry to knock through and Noah was punished and Ike was working...whats a girl to do? I went into the attic, dusted it off, hung it up, and the rest is history. One hour later, Skylar was worn out but had a blast!

One of the most wonderful things about having a positive attitude is the number of people it touches, many times in ways you'll never know.

Recently, I stopped by a convenience store to get a newspaper and a pack of gum. The young woman at the check-out counter said, "That'll be five dollars please," and as I reached into my wallet, the thought occurred to me that a newspaper and gum didn't quite make it to five dollars. When I looked up to get a "re-quote", she had a big smile on her face and said, "Gotcha! I got to get my tip in there somehow!" I laughed when I knew I'd been had. She then glanced down at the paper I was buying and said, "I'm sick and tired of all this negative stuff on the front pages. I want to read some good news for a change." She then said, "In fact, I think someone should just publish a Good News newspaper -a paper with wonderful, inspirational stories about people overcoming adversity and doing good things for others. I'd buy one every day!" She then thanked me for coming in and said, "Maybe we'll get lucky tomorrow; maybe we'll get some good news," and she laughed. She made my day.

The following day after my business appointments, I dropped by the same store again to pick up bottled water, but a different young lady was behind the counter. As I checked out I said, "Good afternoon" and handed her my money for the water. She said nothing – not a word, not a smile...nothing. She just handed me my change and in a negative tone, ordered..."Next!"

It hit me right between the eyes: Two people, same age; one made me feel great, and the other, well, made me feel that I had inconvenienced her by showing up.

By the choices we make, by the attitudes we exhibit, we are influencing lives every day in positive or negative ways...our family, our peers, our friends, and even strangers we've never met before and will never meet again.

So when you brush your teeth every morning, and get ready for work, ask yourself this important question, "Who do I want to be today?" "The Grouch" or "The Good News Girl?" Your answer will go a long way toward determining your success in business and in life.

Skylar has been increasing her oz in the bottle little by little to the point that today 8 oz every two hours was still not holding her over. So we returned home from Kyle's birthday and decided to try her cereal (a week earlier than the doctor suggested) It took only a few trys and she fell in love with eating!

After the disaster of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans did become the city the Nation forgot. The New Orleans Saints became the icon of the city with REBIRTH. On Sunday, February 7th, 2010, History was made.....THE WHO DATS WON THE SUPERBOWL!

We were in our pj's, Skylar feel asleep by the 4th quarter, Noah stayed up. By the end of the game, Ike was screaming soo loud, I made him go outside to join the screaming neighbors. He grabbed Noah in his underoos and tshirt and the two ran in the streets cheering!

What an amazing feeling! The city WILL rebuild and be better than ever.

He took Ana's site and recreated the Land of Nod bookcase worth $900 for less than $100. Look how adorable it turned out!! He even created a plaque that says, "Hand crafted by Popeye!"

Even though it was soo cold outside, Noah wanted to play. Right before it was time to come in, we called him a monkey and let him play in the tree!
